It would be rather jolting to go from a VR experience to a 2D movie. When they reach a point where they need to tell some of the story, they move to a cut scene and the NPC tells you whatever is needed by the story line.

I think the idea is to be similar to what Cyan has done in the past. The character can be placed into the virtual world.

They use a green-screen room in the basement of Cyan’s studio. Their solution is to film with 2 GoPro gamers to create 3D video. Since this game is funded by a kickstarter project the budget is constrained. While some games have animated avatars (in SL we call them bots) Cyan found that outside their expertise and thus too expensive for them to do. The Cyan peeps rant into the problem of how to put video of RL actors into a virtual world and not break the immersion. If you have a VR Headset, the video is in Oculus format.Īpparently Obduction will work with Oculus and similar VR headsets. You can see live-action NPC’s in a video of Senza PesoI (below – link), a trailer for an Oculus VR experience. Hayden Dingman at PCWorld wrote an article about Obduction having live-action Non-Player-Characters (NPC). I am looking forward to Cyan World’s new game Obduction. If there’s one game on Kickstarter that I’m sure people have dreamed of making the transition to virtual reality it’s Myst.I am a Myst games fan. Although only concept art is currently available for show, there’s no doubt that the production design aspirations are there in abundance and the team have had no problems convincing people to help them make the game having met their $1.1M targe a few days ago.īut the team are now reaching out to the VR community for help in hitting their $1.3 million stretch goal-native Oculus Rift support designed and built in from scratch. So, expect lavish fantasy locations and fiendish puzzles-the hallmarks of the series. Myst spawned a genre and a myriad copy-cats in its wake and for some, it’s never really been equalled.Ģ013 marks Myst’s 20th Anniversary (yes, that’s 20 years, aged gamers) and some of the team (having formed new Dev Studio Cyan Inc.) behind Myst and Riven (Myst’s sequel) are ready to explode back onto the scene with a brand new first person adventure designed to be the spiritual successor to both. Mention that name to a thirtysomething and there’s a very good chance they’ll mist over, beginning to reminisce of a golden era of PC gaming and one of the most revered adventure series in the PCs history. First person adventure game Obduction has hit its Kickstarter target of $1.1M, but with only a few hours left until the deadline - can the final stretch goal promising Oculus Rift support be reached?
